Problem + Purpose Statements

Testosterone levels in men

Problem:
In the last 20 years, testosterone levels in men have dropped considerably due to a number of factors including the consumption of genetically modified foods and lifestyle changes. Lower testosterone levels in men are causing higher rates of depression, erectile dysfunction and decreases in bone density and concentration.

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to research and develop a campaign to address the issue of lower testosterone levels in men, and to raise awareness of this phenomenon.

Bay area AIGA student chapters

Problem:

In the bay area, several colleges have active AIGA Student Groups but many don't seem to collaborate with each other outside of the AIGA SF chapter events.

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to research and develop an accessible network that allows AIGA student chapters to share events, ideas, and stay up to date with each other.

Smoking sections on campus

Problem:
Despite our pledge to be a smoke-free campus, there are smoking sections located at SF State that are not labeled properly and some locations don't contain any receptacle to throw away the butt, which promotes littering at the university.

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to research and observe the behavior of students who smoke on campus and develop an effective method for bringing more awareness to the smoking sections and encourage students to dispose of their cigarettes properly.

Introduction

Hi,

My name is Ryan Griego and I'm a visual communication design major at San Francisco State University. My classes focus more on the field of digital media design, particularly in website development and application design.

I am inspired by traveling to new places, going on long hikes, my peers in AIGA and friends in the DAI dept. I am facinated by space phenomomen such as meteor showers, eclipses, and star constellations.

My influences first go way back to my childhood upbringing. My parents have always encouraged me to pursue anything I wanted and have always supported me throughout my education. My other influences come from friends I've made up here in the city as well as home. Some of the most influential people in my life are people who share similarities such as age, education, career paths.

My vision for my life is to develop my craft in web development and marketing well enough to allow me to live and work anywhere that has an internet connection. Academically, I won't be pursuing another degree. I will, however, take a class on ocassion and then at local community colleges. Socially, I see myself continuing to  build a community of close friends and making sure I take enough time away from my work to have a social life.

Words that describe me: determined, patient, optimistic, grateful, forward-looking, and dreamer.
